Land Claims Agreement Coalition Youth Leadership Opportunity!
The Ta’an Kwäch’än Council and the Land Claims Agreements Coalition want to send one youth to attend the annual leadership meeting that will take place the week of February 25th to March 01st, 2019 at the Lord Elgin Hotel in Ottawa.
Youth will be invited to observe the Leadership Meeting on February 26/27.
The youth simulation program will begin with a dinner/reception on the evening of February 27, and be followed by two days of interactive sessions on February 28 and March 1.
This is a very nice opportunity, with the selected youth to receive full honoraria for their time there. You are only eligible for this one if you are over 18.
Please indicate whether you are interested ASAP or by the morning of Monday October 29th, 2018 .

Trapper Education Workshop
September 7 – The Ta’an Kwäch’än Council is coordinating with Yukon Government to offer TKC citizens placement in the upcoming Trapper Education Workshop. The workshop will take place in Whitehorse on September 27th to October 01st.
If you are interested in taking this workshop, contact the Manager of TKC Lands, Resources and Heritage Department at lrhmanager@taan.ca, or phone (867) 668-3613, ext. 601.
As spaces are limited, we encourage interested citizens to contact the LRH department early for your best chance at securing a spot. The next opportunity to take part in the Trapper Education Workshop will be in March 2019.
Language Classes

K-12 Educational Support Applications
July 25, 2018 – It is almost time for back to school! The K-12 Educational Support Applications are now available.
The Ta’an Kwäch’än Council (TKC) provides the following supports for all TKC youth attending K-12 in Yukon Schools:
• School Supplies Subsidy: All students are eligible to receive $200 dollars to help cover the cost of school supplies. (cheque issued upon completion of this application form)
• Attendance Awards: All students who choose to enroll in the TKC “Steps to Success” attendance initiative are eligible to receive prizes and certificates rewarding consistent school attendance.
• Tutoring: All students are eligible for free individual tutoring provided by professional tutors. Lunch time tutoring is available at certain Whitehorse schools. (Please check with the Youth Outreach and Support Worker)
• Graduation Regalia Funding: All graduating high school students are eligible to receive $300 dollars for regalia costs as well as a graduation gift valued at $100 dollars. (A cheque for regalia funds will be issued upon confirmation of graduation)
• Bus Passes: Monthly bus passes are available to students for extracurricular activities if they do not already receive one from the Department of Education
Yukon River Chinook Salmon Harvest Recommendations
July 24, 2018 – Yukon River Chinook salmon populations have been declining and stocks need to be increased to 1980 and 1990 levels. Following these Harvest Recommendations will help us to ensure the species survives into the future.
