Ta’an Kwäch’än Election 2015

An election will be held Monday, October 19, 2015

for one (1) Chief and one (1) Deputy Chief

of the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council

Who can Vote?

Ta’an Kwäch’än citizens over the age of 16 are eligible to vote.

Your name must appear on the Voters List, which will be posted at the Ta’an Kwäch’än Administration Office and the Ta’an Kwach’an Elections Office

Citizens are responsible to ensure their name appears on the Voters List.

Who can run for office?

A candidate for Chief or Deputy Chief must:

Be a Ta’an Kwäch’än citizen;

Be 18 years of age or older;

Have resided in the Yukon for a period of 6 months prior to the date of the election;

Not have been convicted of an indictable offence or the offence of theft, fraud or false pretenses.

A candidate for Chief must also be a direct descended of a Traditional Family or obtain and attach the family consent letter in accordance with Section 33 of the Elections Act.

 One of the requirements of running for either position is to provide proof of a clear criminal record by way of a current RCMP criminal records check. If you are thinking about running it would be best to submit your criminal record check form to the RCMP right away.

Who will oversee the election?

The Ta’an Kwäch’än Council appointed an Elections Committee in accordance with the laws and constitution of the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. The Elections Committee consists of: Fred Koe, Chair of the Elections Committee; Candice Menzi, Member of the Elections Committee and Edward Duru, Member of the Elections Committee.

The Chief Returning Officer was selected by the Elections Committee to be Norman Eady. He will working with the election committee to ensure a fair election per the Ta’an Elections Act.

Call for Nominations

To ensure candidates meet the requirements of the Ta’an Kwäch’än Elections Act candidates for Chief and Deputy Chief are required to file a nomination form with the Chief Returning Officer before the close of nominations date and time noted below:

Nominations open Thursday, August 20, 2015.

Nominations close on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 4PM.

Nomination forms are available for pick-up at the front desk of the Ta’an Kwäch’än administration offices, from the Ta’an website (taan.ca) or by contacting the Chief Returning Officer, Norman Eady:

Election Help Needed
