Constitutional Review Committee CRC
Join the Constitutional Review Committee for Upcoming Family Meetings
The Ta’an Kwäch’än Council (TKC) Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) is inviting all Citizens to take part in a special series of Family Meetings designed to share the Committee’s progress over the past year—and, more importantly, hear directly from you.
The meetings will also introduce a new Constitutional Amendment Proposal Intake Form, a pilot initiative designed to make it easier for Citizens to submit, review, and consider constitutional amendment proposals in a clear, transparent, and consistent way. (Please note that the Family Meetings are not required to submit a 2026 proposed Constitutional Amendment using this new form. The Family Meetings attached to the Constitution Committee are a separate process from the intake of the new 2026 proposed amendments.)
These gatherings are an opportunity to learn about the constitutional review process, ask questions, share your ideas before recommendations are brought forward to the 2026 General Assembly.
Whether you live in the community or away from home, your participation matters. Family Meetings will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 311 Ray Street, with both in-person and online attendance available so all Citizens have the opportunity to be part of the conversation.
Every question, perspective, and suggestion shared during the Family Meetings will help shape the Committee’s final report and recommendations for the 2026 General Assembly.
Following the Family Meetings, the Committee will reconvene on August 12 to carefully review the feedback, ensuring that the voices of Citizens are reflected in the recommendations presented to the 2026 General Assembly.
Have questions or need more information? Reach out to your Family Representative, Councillor, or the Governance Department. We look forward to hearing from you and working together to help shape the future of Ta’an Kwäch’än Council’s Constitution.
BACKGROUND
As a result of time constraints at the 2025 General Assembly, the constitutional amendment process could not be completed. To continue this important work, Council established the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) under the Government Administration Interpretation Act (GAIA), using the appointments approved by the 2025 General Assembly.
The Committee’s mandate is to review proposed constitutional amendments, identify opportunities to strengthen the amendment process, and bring recommendations forward for consideration at the 2026 General Assembly. While the 2025 amendments submitted last year will not be brought forward to the 2026 General Assembly for consideration in their current format, the information about community issues and needs will be assessed and included in the CRC report for the upcoming GA. Please contact governancemanager@taan.ca for further follow up.
Together, we can build a stronger Constitution that reflects the voices of TKC Citizens. We look forward to seeing you at the Family Meetings.
