TKC’s New Policy Committee
Making a Difference – One Meeting at a Time
As an important part of the policy development process for TKC is the opportunity for its review and discussion by representatives of each of the TKC Traditional families. This need brought about the creation of the Policy Committee that enables a comprehensive review of draft policies while bringing different Citizen perspectives to the table. The Committee has representatives from each of the Traditional families with the chair of the Policy Committee being Governance Manager Chantelle Schultz and policy support provided by the Legislation and Policy Analyst, Mike Draper. Since its creation in 2025, the Committee has reviewed and recommended for approval the Councillor Compensation Policy, Fleet Vehicle Policy, Honouraria Policy, and Travel Policy.
As we move further into 2026, the work will continue as the Governance branch works with both Chief and Council and TKC administrators in identifying the upcoming key policy initiatives. The Elders Council and Youth Council are also key reviewing bodies to provide further input and perspectives on policy creation and development consistent with TKC values and interests.
