Dear Yukoner,
Due to COVID-19 regulations, Ta’an Kwäch’än Council (TKC) lands staff continue to record a significant increase in the number of people utilizing Settlement Lands for recreational purposes. Because Whitehorse serves as a busy hub for Yukoners, the First Nation government is concerned about the negative impacts further use will have on these important areas. Action required due to October 2020 windstorm
In October 2020, a windstorm caused a significant amount of tree blowdown located within TKC Traditional Territory, with some areas on R12A and R2A severely impacted. During a recent meeting with Yukon’s Forest Management Branch, Lands, Resources and Heritage (LRH) staff were updated about potential concerns for the overall forest health in the area resulting from this severe wind event. Citizen Barbecue – July 7th and August 18th
The TKC LRH department is pleased to announce two upcoming Citizen engagement BBQs being held Wednesday, July 7 and Wednesday August 18 from 11:00am-3:00pm at the Gazebo Fire Pit, Shipyards Park. These events are to bring TKC LRH staff and Citizens together on what the LRH department’s current and future goals are. We encourage all Citizens to join us for some good food and company.
