Ta’an Kwäch’än Council was fortunate to receive funding from the Canadian Heritage Rivers System Celebrate Canada 150 to enable for a youth canoe trip and an Elder’s boat trip on the Thirty Mile section of the Yukon River. The Thirty Mile is of national historic significance and has been designated as a Canadian Heritage River.
A youth canoe trip has been scheduled to take place from July 24th to 28th, 2017 for 5 TKC teens. The guided 4 day trip will go from Lake Laberge to Little Salmon Village. All canoes, tents, cooking equipment, meals and transportation is provided. Participants only need to bring sleeping bags, clothing and personal supplies. All parents or legal guardians of the participants will need to sign a waiver and a medical form before the start of the canoe trip.
Only 5 young people can have this opportunity. The opportunity will be extended to the first 5 eligible youth who express interest and have the support of their parents/legal guardians. All participants will be required to keep a journal, take photographs or do artwork during their canoe trip.
